History of the Club

The River Rat Caravan Club was established 15 years ago, by a bunch of people that had common interests in Boating and Caravanning. The club has been growing ever since providing families with a facility where they are able to spend weekends and annual holidays, with great people. Each family unit has a turn to chair the club for a year, the family head is referred to as the Honcho for this period. It is his/her duty to make all the arrangements, bookings etc. for that year, including managing the club’s funds.

River Rat Habits

The River Rats normally get together on a monthly basis, usually on the month-end weekend at the Vanderbijlpark caravan park. This caravan park was selected for its spaciousness, close proximity to Johannesburg and water sport facilities. The River Rats have been using Emfuleni Caravan Park in Vanderbijlpark as their base for the past eleven years, they are normally based on D Block. Rallies take place in the warmer months (excluded are May through to August). A winter rally is normally organized in June/July, a northern venue is typically selected that has caravanning and chalets.

Formal stuff

The River Rats hold an AGM every year to select a new club manager. This manager is referred to as the Honcho. The River Rats hold their AGM at the July winter rally to select a new family to Honcho the club for the following year. This is to make sure that there is continuity in the club through the December holidays, which is obviously loaded with functions and events for adults and children alike.
